KAMPALA: The Supreme Court has set Thursday the 16th of September to hear an appeal filed by the former Permanent Secretary in the ministry of local government John Kashaka Muhanguzi.
He is challenging a 10 year jail term for causing government a financial loss of 4.6 billion shillings.
Seven justices of the Supreme Court led by chief justice Alifonse Owiny Dollo will hear the appeal in a special Criminal Appeals Session starting this week.
Other justices on the panel include Justices; Ruby Opio Aweri, Stella Arach, Lilian Tibatemwa Ekirikubinza, Paul Mugamba, Ezekiel Muhanguzi and Mike Chibita will handle the appeals.
In 2016 Kashaka was convicted by then Anti-corruption court judge Catherine Bamugemereire on charges of corruption and causing government a financial loss of 4.6 billion shillings meant to buy bicycles for LC1 chairpersons during the 2011 General Elections.
He appealed the decision but court of Appeal upheld the said sentence.
Kashaka was also banned from holding public officers for a period of ten years.
