The Commander of the UPDF 3 Infantry Division, Maj Gen Don Nabasa, has called on intelligence officers to intensify efforts to secure lasting peace in the Karamoja sub-region.
Maj Gen Nabasa made the call during a handover ceremony at Moroto Army Barracks, where Lt Col Jean Rukira took over as Division Intelligence Officer from Lt Col Fred Eribankya Wemba, who was appointed commander of the 2 Usalama Infantry Brigade.
“I urge you to double your efforts and work in synergy to achieve total peace, as guided by the President, so Karamoja can join other regions in socio-economic transformation,” Maj Gen Nabasa said.
He praised the intelligence and command teams for their successful collaboration, which has improved security in the region.
Brig Gen Wilberforce Sserunkuma, Deputy Division Commander, commended the outgoing and incoming officers for their exemplary service, encouraging others to emulate their dedication.
Col Albert Kashakamba, Director of Intelligence and Security for Land Force, credited the improving stability in Karamoja to the UPDF’s operations and strong partnerships with other security agencies.
Lt Col Rukira, previously in the 4 Infantry Division, pledged to uphold the trust placed in him, while Lt Col Wemba expressed gratitude for his tenure and called for continued cooperation.
The ceremony, attended by senior officers from various security agencies, highlighted the importance of joint efforts in securing lasting peace in Karamoja.
